USDA to Web-cast briefing on avian influenza situation Monday
Mar. 17, 2006

Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns, Secretary of Health & Human Services Mike Leavitt and Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton, will discuss preparations for avian influenza in the U.S. during a live Web cast at 1 p.m. EST Monday, March 20.

The briefing will include details of the expanded migratory bird monitoring system and an update on response plans in the event of an outbreak among domestic birds. Secretary Leavitt will discuss public health preparedness.

This essay was written last year (2005). I only just ran across it, after setting this site up. He discusses what role the blogosphere may have in our own planning.

So, is it time to take to the basement safe room and start eating canned beans? Not quite. There is still a good chance that we can avert the next plague by working together. If so, the blogosphere will need to play a key role.

I have not had time to review this course. However: the credentials are good (PanAmerican Health Organization); it’s been on the Internet for awhile. The site includes links to further readings and a glossary. Topics list is comprehensive, too.
